Exuviance is a brand with advanced, scientifically proven and mildly exfoliating skin care products. It was founded by the professors who hold the first patent for the use of alpha hydroxy acid technology (AHA) in skin care. What is unique about Exuviance is that the products contain a large amount of the company's own innovations of AHA, PHA, NeoGlucosamine and Aminofil in combination with other well-proven ingredients.
Exuviance products are always formulated with a pH value that provides optimal efficiency and safety. They often contain vitamins, antioxidants and sunscreens that protect the skin from harmful environmental factors, free radicals and premature aging. In the products we often find acids that in one way or another improve the skin, and you can read more about these acids below. Thanks to Exuviance, anyone, even those with sensitive skin types who experience itching, stinging or burning, can now use acids without fear of irritation or discomfort.
Since many of the products from Exuviance exfoliate the skin with the help of acids, you may at first experience that the skin flakes, as after a mild tan. This is completely normal. It usually occurs during the first two weeks and lasts for about two weeks. If the skin becomes too irritated by this, you should initially use the products a little less often, e.g. every other day instead of every day. Then use the products as usual according to the instructions once the skin has gotten used to them.
Alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) is a so-called "fruit acid", which means that it is derived from substances found in fruits and vegetables. There are several different AHA acids, including glycolic acid, mandelic acid and citric acid. Glycolic acid is the most common AHA acid and this ingredient is excellent for activating cell renewal, exfoliating the skin and counteracting signs of aging. Products with glycolic acid are particularly suitable for people with combination skin with a tendency to acne, and for people with signs of aging and pigmentation. Products with mandelic acid are usually recommended for those people with oily and acne-prone skin, as this acid is fat-soluble. Sun-damaged and obsolete skin can instead benefit especially from products with citric acid. This acid has a particularly powerful antioxidant effect.
Common to all AHA acids is that they all stimulate cell renewal, have an exfoliating effect, counteract pigmentation, promote collagen production and minimize unwanted skin structure (wrinkles, pimples, acne). The result of AHA acids should be a smoother and smoother skin with a wonderful glow.
The polyhydroxy acids (PHA) are closely related to the alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) but their molecules are larger and have several hydroxy groups. Because they are larger, they penetrate the skin more slowly and are less irritating, which is perfect for those with sensitive skin. The PHA acids bind and add lots of moisture to the skin (more than the AHA acids) thanks to the many hydroxyl groups, the basis for healthy skin. They strengthen the skin barrier so that the skin becomes less sensitive to irritation and environmental impact. In addition, they possess antioxidant properties that can help prevent cell damage. Although the PHA acids can be seen as a further development, for example gluconolactone actually occurs naturally in the body.
Just like alpha-hydroxy acids, they also promote skin renewal (turnover and exfoliation of cells), resulting in noticeably smoother skin and a clearer, smoother skin tone. Examples of PHAs are gluconolactone and maltobionic acid. These acids inhibit naturally occurring enzymes that break down collagen and elastin, and help preserve the skin's structure. In the end, the PHA acids give you a fuller and firmer skin with a youthful look and fewer visible lines and wrinkles.
Bionic PHA has the same good properties as AHA and PHA. What distinguishes Bionic PHA is that this acid has even stronger moisturizing, strengthening and protective properties. Products with Bionic PHA are suitable for all skin types but are especially recommended for people with sensitive skin.
BHA is commonly referred to as, and is better known as, salicylic acid. This is an exfoliating acid that is fat soluble while having a certain anti-inflammatory effect. This means that products with salicylic acid work well for people with oily and acne-prone skin. These products are most often recommended as a compliment to other skin care, as salicylic acid does not bind moisture or care for the skin and thus can be very dehydrating and tiring.
Contrary to what the name implies, hyaluronic acid is not an acid. In fact, it is a natural ingredient in the dermis (intermediate layer of the skin) and a lack of hyaluronic acid can cause skin one becomes limp. This happens naturally with age, and skin care with hyaluronic acid can not actually penetrate the skin's middle layer to counteract this. However, skin care with hyaluronic acid can moisturize the upper part of the skin and still provide an appreciated effect of improved skin structure.
